Huskies, Gold and Performances for Olympians

On Monday afternoon in the Lower Gallery of Canada’s Northern House, acclaimed Yukon jeweller, Cheryl Rivest, will share history and images from Yukon’s gold mining past as well as share information about present day gold mining. Cheryl will also demonstrate panning techniques and show how gold is transformed into jewellery.

Olympic visitors have enjoyed the lion’s share of entertainment at the Games, but on Monday Olympic athletes will get to enjoy a feast of northern culture. At the Vancouver athlete's village, Olympians can attend performances by Inuit Drummers, Artcirq, Godson and Kaiva, Ta'an Kwachan Drummers, Arctic Sport Demonstrations, Fiddlers, Soir de Semaine andSophisticated Cavemen.

At the Whistler athlete’s village, athletes can see performances and demonstrations including aNorthern Blanket Toss and Dene Hand Games, Sasquatch Prom Date, Root Sellers, NWT Dene Drummers and Dakwakada Dancers, Ryan McNally and Sophie Leger.

Monday is also a last chance to meet the White Huskies from Inuvik, NWT. This week Olav and Judi Falsnes will return north with their team of pure five white huskies, so come and meet these gentle dogs near the Roundhouse Skytrain Station. Take your picture with an authentic northern sled dog and learn about the experience of going on a dog sledding adventure.
