Canada’s Northern House Open Until April 18

The Games may be over, but Canada’s Northern House stays open until April 18. This is great news for all the locals who have been eager to visit the House but were wary of traffic or line-ups. Canada’s Northern House is not to be missed – it enjoyed rave reviews as one of the top pavilions at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Authentic Inuksuk at Canada's Northern House

The most memorable symbol of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games is unquestionably the inuksuk. This icon of the North has helped welcome visitors from around the world to Vancouver and shared the rich, enduring culture of Canada's northern people. Visiting Canada's Northern House presents the perfect opportunity to learn more about the people of Northern Canada and see our authentic inuksuk welcoming visitors into the pavilion.

Family Fun at Canada's Northern House

Families visiting Canada's Northern House are finding a treasure trove of things to see and do. A barren ground caribou greets people at the door, and inside you can get up-close-and-personal with a muskox, an arctic wolf and a polar bear. Children are building their own inuksuit from northern rocks and having their picture taken next to the human-sized inuksuk that stands in the entry.

Last Day at the Games, but 7 More Weeks for Canada’s Northern House

After 17 days of adrenalin-infused sport, inspired cultural performances and lifelong memories, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games are coming to a close. Today is the last day of Games-time performances and programming at Canada’s Northern House. Dene Hand Games will be demonstrated at 11am, Frozen Toes Trio performs at 12pm and 1pm, Northern Legends drumming performance and audience participation is at 2pm and 3pm, and Crash the Car performs at 4pm.

    It's a big day at Canada's Northern House today.  We've got Show and Try Drumming @10:30am; Dana Sipos @11am, 1pm and 3pm; and, 2010 Juno Nominee Digawolf @12:15pm, 2:15pm and 4:15pm all up on the main stage.

    Traditional Games originated from the time when northern aboriginal people were semi-nomadic. Played for both fun and survival, these games developed strength, endurance, and resistance to pain. The people were tested and prepared for the hard life on the land. Today they are played in competition and to celebrate culture between different regions of the North.
